What do we offer?

A weekly webseries
and a documentary about the outstanding work of environmental organizations
and we will pull plastic out of the ocean

What do we need?

“Just” a Sailing boat. We already have an epic camera setup and the knowledge to produce a web series and a documentary for you, but what we need is a zero-carbon means of transport because a sailboat moves with the power of the wind. Hence, it’s in the right direction to be emission-free in most cases.

What do you, our supporters, get?

If you support our mission to zero-carbon, for each $1, we will pull 1 pound of plastic out of the ocean. With your help, we can show the people a sustainable lifestyle, and we can also clean the sea from plastic and make something to help our planet.

Certificate

For your help, you will receive a personal certificate with a piece of ocean plastic (100€), including the coordinates where we found it. We will send this worldwide.

Documentary Film

The world is changing a lot, and sustainability is now present in almost every company. Our first year of sailing will be very exciting because the movement is going on very fast. We think it is a perfect time to make a film about the actual change, including topics like sustainability, recycling, climate change, and pollution.

What is Sailing with the Starks?

Global warming, plastic in our oceans, cutting down forests, and environmental pollution, our planet has a lot of problems. Have you ever thought I would like to do something against climate change?

For us, it is not enough anymore to just recycle our garbage. We want to go out and make a difference. At this point, the idea of “Sailing with the Starks” was born.

Sailing with the Starks is a new sailing web series. From the end of December on, we will be uploading a weekly video on YouTube, and from our first year of sailing, we will produce a documentary. But we not only want to show you the family living on a sailing boat, but we would also like to go sailing for a more sustainable awareness and against climate change. For this reason, we will travel to environmental organizations and meet sustainable companies. You’ll get deep insights into the projects and obtain the privilege to be part of a spectacular journey into an emission-free future.

Why is our project called Sailing with the Starks (“Sharks”)?

We are the Starks and we like sharks. It’s that easy. Our family name is Stark, so the name Sailing with the Starks was found very quickly. But we really like “Sailing with the Sharks”.

Sharks stand for all the animals and the nature we want to protect. Climate change, ocean pollution, overfishing, and fin poaching already leave some species of sharks facing extinction in parts of the world.

How did we end up at Kickstarter?

Since we were children, we have felt a deep connection to the ocean; we love being out in the fresh air and sailing.

Furthermore, we are the Founder of Mydollarbills.com, a Green Personal Finance Blog. Because of this work, we have contact with many sustainable companies and environmental organizations. Through this activity, we felt the decision to become a more active part of the current action and give these organizations a voice. The opportunity for them to show the world what they are doing to save our beautiful planet.

Why Kickstarter?

Kickstarter is the fastest, most-effective way we could think of to get this project to success. We need to act now; we have no time to wait. That’s why we need your support to get the message out there.

How do we get the plastic out of the ocean?

A study has estimated that 250,000 tons of plastic floating on the ocean surface. With manta trawls, fishers get fish out of the ocean, but with these trawls, we can get plastic out there, too.

If you want to be successful, copy nature!

On our passages, we can get as much plastic out there as we can store in our boat and recycle it when we arrive in a harbor. But there are also bigger activities in planning. For instance, to rent a fisher boat and get help from volunteers to get more plastic out of the ocean.

Result

A boat for 60.000 € is possible. For carrying a family of four and a manta trawl. And provides enough space to carry all the trash back to land!
